Personally, my immediate reaction to that question is actually “why not?”. Today, most of our daily habits have been redefined by breakthrough digital solutions: our media consumption, our workout routines, our financial decisions and even our dating life! In an era where the line between online and offline worlds has been blurring so rapidly, isn’t now the time to finally disrupt the traditional grocery shopping experience once and for all? For people–like myself–who passionately value time, convenience, flexibility and choice, I think Instacart is a dream-come-true service.
Professionally, my answer is pretty straightforward: “because it’s one of the most exciting business challenges in consumer tech today.” Despite the very complex nature of the business and the technological challenges the team is solving for everyday (i.e. constantly connecting the dots across customers, partners, markets, logistics and operations), Instacart offers an elegantly simplified solution to a truly universal daily customer need.
While working on an intellectually stimulating business challenge (with an amazing team) towards an exciting vision, you can make a positive impact on so many people’s lives everyday. This is the beauty of Instacart.
